We live near a steam railway—in fact, the trains chug past the end of our garden. It's a famous railway because it featured in the classic film The Railway Children. In 2014 our online business was growing very quickly, we had 3 young children and needed a bigger, more practical space to work from.  Preferably something that could handle our growing stock deliveries and postal pickups. So when a local village shop came on the market at the bottom of a steep cobbled street we didnt give it a second glance.  But as the months rolled by and nothing suitable was coming up we got desperate.   Recently a customer messaged us on our Instagram page @modocreative.com with lots of pictures of her lovely home with loads of Modo bits everywhere, in almost every room actually and it made us so happy!  We photograph our products in a fairly simple way, against a wall or garage door etc but maybe we don't show enough of our stuff in situ. So we took a few shots at home because our house is drowning in various bits at various stages of completion! One day we might try again when we've got more time to make them look more profesh....

Our very first product was a baby print and 15 years later we are still thought of by many as a business that produces baby products and decor.  We still love designing for the smalls in our lives and still believe that baby decor doesn't need to babyish and gender specific. This school of thought was pretty unusual 15 years ago, everything for boys had tractors on and everything for girls had princesses on.  We have never once used a tractor or a princess on any of our designs and in fact we even try and avoid colours that are associated...

It's all about giving new life to old stuff and it started with a white piano! We bought an old scruffy brown piano that smelt of damp and looked very at home next to our victorian fireplace. It aged the room and as much as we loved it, its huge dark presence was not to our liking so we looked at selling it.  At this point we learnt that you couldn't even give pianos away anymore and they were been tipped all over the country. WHAT! These beautifully crafted instruments suddenly worthless!  So we painted ours white.  It felt like a crime...

We are now on week 4 of lock down in the UK and it's starting to feel a little like groundhog day Right? However we'd be absolutely lying if we said we weren't making the most of any positives to be found in the situation, and there are plenty! Slower and simpler days at home make way for lots of time to reflect and consider how we usually live our lives. The kids have settled into lockdown life better than we expected and in the last week we've decided that they actually seem to be thriving on it! They are growing, they are enjoying...
